Escaping Reality with Fraggle Rock
"Dance your cares away, worries for another day. Let the music play, down in Fraggle Rock."
As a fan of Jim Henson and after watching The Muppet Show on Disney Plus, I thought it would be fun to watch another classic series called Fraggle Rock.
Fraggle Rock is a show that ran from 1983 to 1987. It was not on TV when I was a kid but I know it was on when my parents were young.
Back to Fraggle Rock, the show is about small colorful creatures called Fraggles who live underground and sometimes shows smaller characters called Doozers, small characters who work on construction projects in Fraggle Rock and are the opposite of Fraggles: they all about work. The show also explores other characters that live above ground like a man named Doc and his dog, Sprocket.
Each episode shows the Fraggles having to solve a problem. The episode I watched was about not having water. The Fraggles are cute creatures who get along very well with each other and sing a lot. The songs are fun and short.
The episode also features a segment featuring the character Traveling Matt. The segment starts when Gobo gets a post card from outer space (or Earth to us humans) from his uncle named Traveling Matt. The segments with traveling Matt are funny since he is writing from different places on Earth and describing every day things humans would know but that are new to him. For example, he got some change from a woman and called it a treasure.
Each episode is a half hour and filled with songs as well as an entertaining plot. I would have to say that the show aged well in terms of being family friendly, the show is free from violence and inappropriate language. It has a peaceful vibe to it.
The show also shows other characters near and in Fraggle Rock. The other characters in the show are Doc and his dog Sprocket and furry human-like creatures called Gorges. There is also a female pile of compost named Marjory and two rats named Grunge and Philo.
Most of the characters are included in the plot. For example, when the Fraggles didn't have water, you could also see Doc fixing the pipes to get water and Junior Gorg getting upset when he notices he can't get water out of the well.
The show is a fun snapshot of older Jim Henson shows that can still be seen today. So if you want to wash your cares away, go down to Fraggle Rock.
